Healthy Roots - Commercial-Grade Probiotic Microbial Inoculant for Lawns, Gardens & Food Plots (2 oz)

Healthy Roots by Unbreakable Ag & Turf is a concentrated dry microbial inoculant containing five commercial-grade probiotic organisms - four Bacillus bacterial species and the mycorrhizal fungus Glomus intraradices - selected for their documented benefits to turf, garden, and food plot soil health. When introduced to the soil, these beneficial organisms colonize the root zone, increase CFU counts of the target microbes, and produce a broad range of enzymes and metabolites that unlock stored nutrients, improve soil structure, and strengthen plant root systems. Healthy Roots is not a fertilizer replacement - it is a soil biology investment that makes every nutrient input you're already using work harder and last longer. For best results, combine with Healthy Shoots, the companion liquid micronutrient fertilizer, to support both the plant and the soil ecosystem beneath it.

Key Benefits

  • Unlocks stored soil nutrients - the Bacillus species in Healthy Roots mineralize phosphorus, iron, and nitrogen that are chemically locked in the soil and unavailable to plant roots, effectively expanding the nutrient pool without additional inputs.
  • Expands the root system - Glomus intraradices mycorrhizal fungi extend hyphae far beyond the root tip into surrounding soil, dramatically increasing the volume of soil the plant can access for water and nutrient uptake.
  • Improves soil structure - microbial activity stimulates the production of glomalin and other root exudates that bind soil particles into stable aggregates, improving porosity, drainage, and moisture retention simultaneously.
  • Builds natural drought and stress tolerance - the Bacillus strains produce hormones and enzymes that prime the plant's own stress response pathways, improving resilience to heat, drought, and environmental pressure.
  • Potential for reduced fertilizer inputs - by maximizing the efficiency of soil-resident nutrients and improving root-zone access, the microbial community in Healthy Roots can reduce the amount of supplemental fertilizer needed to maintain plant health.
  • Natural fungicidal and insecticidal enzyme activity - the Bacillus species are prolific producers of chitinase, an enzyme that breaks down the chitin in fungal cell walls and insect exoskeletons, providing a natural layer of biological protection in the root zone.
  • Commercial-grade microbes in a convenient 2 oz pack - the same microbial strains used in professional turf and agricultural programs, formulated for easy application in home lawns, gardens, and food plots.

The Five Beneficial Organisms & What They Do

Bacillus licheniformis, B. megaterium, B. mucilaginosus, and B. simplex are four Bacillus bacterial species that form a complementary microbial community in the rhizosphere. Together, they colonize root surfaces, where they produce a wide array of plant-growth-promoting hormones, including auxins, cytokinins, and gibberellins. They fix atmospheric nitrogen into plant-available forms, solubilize phosphate that is bound in the soil, and produce iron-chelating compounds called siderophores that make iron accessible to plant roots. Their enzyme output - including chitinase, protease, and amylase - contributes both to organic matter breakdown (releasing nutrients) and to biological suppression of root pathogens and soil-dwelling insects. These bacteria also stimulate the release of glomalin from roots, a glycoprotein that improves soil aggregation and structure over time.

Glomus intraradices (now also classified as Rhizophagus irregularis) is an endomycorrhizal fungus that forms a direct physical connection with plant root cells, creating one of the most well-studied and effective symbioses in soil biology. The fungal hyphae extend outward from roots into surrounding soil, effectively multiplying the plant's water and nutrient absorbing surface area by orders of magnitude - with particular impact on phosphorus uptake, which is largely immobile in soil and highly dependent on root contact for absorption. The mycorrhizal relationship also stimulates additional root branching, giving the plant a denser, more extensive root system below ground that translates directly to better drought resistance and more consistent nutrient supply above ground.

Use Sites & Application

Healthy Roots is suitable for home lawns, food plots, vegetable and ornamental gardens, and any planting situation where improving soil biology and root health is a priority. Apply to the root zone as directed - through a sprayer, as a drench, or incorporated into soil at planting. For a complete plant health program, pair Healthy Roots with Healthy Shoots liquid micronutrient fertilizer to nourish both the soil biology below and the plant canopy above in a single coordinated program.

Why Professionals Choose Healthy Roots

Healthy soil biology is the foundation that every fertilizer program is built on - and Healthy Roots is how you invest in that foundation. The five-organism microbial blend targets the most impactful biological processes in the root zone: nitrogen fixation, phosphate solubilization, mycorrhizal root expansion, and soil structure improvement. The result is a plant that extracts more value from every dollar spent on fertility inputs, holds up better under stress, and develops the kind of dense, deep root system that separates thriving turf and food plots from ones that merely survive. At 2 oz, it's a small package with a substantial impact on what's happening beneath the surface.
