What is an OIN?
An OIN is an identification number issued to property operators and entered on their pesticide use report. The OIN is issued specifically for management of pesticide use data to identify a unique entity.
The CAC (County Agricultural Commissioner) issues an OIN to the operator of the property (or the operator’s authorized representative) in order to purchase and use pesticides for a specified period not to exceed 36 months.
Why do I need an OIN?
From California’s documentation on OINs: chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/https://www.cdpr.ca.gov/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/chapter_4.pdf
“Anyone can apply for and receive an OIN. There are no provisions to revoke, deny, or suspend an OIN…An OIN is strictly an identification number. …Without an OIN, the property operator cannot purchase agricultural or restricted-use pesticides or perform pesticide work and DPR could not track the pesticide use.”
How can I obtain an OIN?
To determine how to obtain your OIN you will need to contact your county’s department of agriculture as the process can differ from county to county. Typically the process can include forms, inspections, a list of sites you will be applying the products to, and what commodity/site you are applying them to as well anything else your county requires.
