Palisade XT Plant Growth Regulator - Trinexapac-Ethyl for Lodging Management in Cereals, Grass Seed & Sugarcane

Palisade XT from Syngenta is a high-concentration, emulsifiable concentrate plant growth regulator (PGR) formulated with trinexapac-ethyl at 23.0%, equivalent to 2 lb active ingredient per gallon. Trinexapac-ethyl inhibits the biosynthesis of gibberellic acid, a natural plant hormone responsible for cell elongation. By suppressing gibberellin activity, Palisade XT shortens internodes and strengthens stems in cereals and grasses grown for seed, significantly reducing the risk of lodging under high-yield, high-nitrogen conditions. The result is a sturdier, more harvestable crop that is better positioned to realize its full yield potential.

Key Benefits

  • Reduces lodging risk in high-yield environments - shortens internodes and produces thicker, stronger stems, protecting yield in intensively managed crops where high nitrogen rates elevate lodging pressure.
  • Broad crop label - registered for use in wheat, triticale, barley, oats, rye, grasses grown for seed, and sugarcane; also labeled for clover grown for seed in Idaho, Oregon, and Washington.
  • Rapidly absorbed through foliage - taken up quickly through leaf tissue; PGR effects do not occur through soil uptake, so results depend on good foliar coverage at the correct growth stage.
  • Flexible application methods - can be applied by ground equipment or aerial application, and through center pivot chemigation systems, giving growers operational flexibility.
  • Compatible with key cereal fungicides - tank-mix directions are included for Quilt, Quilt Xcel, Trivapro, and Tilt fungicides, allowing PGR and disease management programs to be combined in a single pass.
  • Sugarcane dual-action benefit - in sugarcane, shortens internodes to improve seed piece production and, when applied before harvest, helps increase and maintain sugar content over an extended harvest window.

Crops & Application Timing

Palisade XT is registered for the following crops. Application timing is critical, apply within the specified growth stage window for each crop. PGR effects are primarily influenced by environmental conditions, crop growth stage, fertility level, moisture availability, and plant vigor at the time of application:

  • Cereal grains (wheat, triticale, barley, oats, rye): Apply from Feekes Growth Stage 4 (pseudostem erection/tillering) through Feekes Growth Stage 7 (second node visible). Do not apply after Feekes 8 (flag leaf visible). Split applications are permitted; the total across all applications must not exceed the labeled maximum. Use the higher rate for lodging-prone varieties or intensively managed crops. Refer to the Crop Use Directions table in the label for specific rates by crop and growth stage.
  • Grasses grown for seed: Application timing and rates vary by grass species. Refer to Section 7.2 of the label for species-specific use directions and rate table.
  • Sugarcane: Apply at the growth stage specified on the label to shorten internodes and improve seed piece production; pre-harvest applications can help extend the harvest window while maintaining or increasing sugar content. Refer to Section 7.3 of the label for specific directions.
  • Clover grown for seed (Idaho, Oregon, and Washington only): Applications reduce canopy height, reduce lodging, and can shorten the time to harvest maturity. Refer to Section 7.4 of the label.

Do not apply if the crop is stressed by drought, disease, or temperature extremes, as crop injury may result. Avoid spray overlap, double application of PGR in any area can cause crop injury. Do not apply if the crop is frozen or covered with ice or frost.

Application Rates & Methods

  • Ground application: Apply in a minimum of 10 gallons of water per acre. Thorough, uniform coverage is essential for consistent PGR effect. Do not apply through any ultra-low volume (ULV) spray system.
  • Aerial application: Apply in a minimum of 2 gallons of water per acre for cereals, grasses grown for seed, clover, and sugarcane. Pilots must use an enclosed cockpit. Avoid application when uniform coverage cannot be achieved or excessive drift may occur.
  • Chemigation (center pivot only): Apply in 0.1–0.25 inches of water per acre. Center pivot only, do not apply through any other irrigation system type. Do not inject at full strength; use a dilution of at least 10 parts water to 1 part Palisade XT.
  • Tank-mix partners: Palisade XT may be tank-mixed with Quilt Fungicide, Quilt Xcel, Trivapro Fungicide, and Tilt Fungicide, following the specific mixing order in Section 4.4.5 of the label. Always conduct a jar compatibility test before mixing with any other products not specifically listed on the label.

Important seal compatibility note: Palisade XT is corrosive to many seal materials. Teflon seals are best. Silicone and Santoprene seals can be used but must be replaced annually. Do not use Buna-N, Neoprene, Viton, or PVC seals in equipment used to apply this product.

Storage: Do not store below 32°F. If crystals form, store above 70°F and shake or roll the container periodically until crystals are fully redissolved before use.

ALWAYS READ AND FOLLOW LABEL DIRECTIONS BEFORE USE.

Why Professionals Choose Palisade XT

In high-yield cereal and grass seed production, lodging is one of the most costly and unpredictable threats to return on investment, especially as nitrogen rates climb to push yield potential. Palisade XT gives growers a proven, Syngenta-developed PGR tool to protect that investment by mechanically strengthening the crop stand before lodging pressure arrives. Its 2 lb ai/gal concentration means more acres treated per gallon compared to 1 lb ai/gal formulations, and its compatibility with key cereal fungicides like Trivapro and Quilt Xcel allows PGR application to be bundled seamlessly into an existing fungicide pass, keeping operational passes to a minimum without compromising either program.
