Arsenal Herbicide - Imazapyr 2 lb/gal for Forestry, Aquatic, Rangeland, Rights-of-Way & Industrial Vegetation Management

Arsenal Herbicide from BASF is the original imazapyr herbicide for total vegetation management: an aqueous solution of the isopropylamine salt of imazapyr at 27.8% (2 lb acid equivalent per gallon). Absorbed through foliage and roots and moved to the growing points, it controls annual and perennial grasses, broadleaf weeds, vines, brush, and trees right to the roots, and its soil activity keeps working on new growth afterward. One product covers forest site preparation and conifer release, aquatic and wetland margins, pasture and rangeland spot treatment, rights-of-way, industrial sites, bareground, and even selective bermudagrass and bahiagrass work on roadsides, with foliar, cut-stump, injection, frill, and aerial methods all on the label.

Key Benefits

  • Kills roots, not just tops - translocates to growing points and roots to control perennial weeds, vines, brush, and trees without the regrowth you see with burn-down products.
  • Broad spectrum - controls Johnson grass, bermudagrass, quackgrass, Canada thistle, field bindweed, poison ivy, oak, sumac, willow, and invasive aquatics such as phragmites, cattail, and water hyacinth.
  • Wide range of sites - forestry, aquatic, pasture and rangeland, non-agricultural lands, bareground, unimproved bermudagrass and bahiagrass, and certain paved-surface treatments.
  • Every application method - broadcast, low- and high-volume foliar, spot spray, cut-stump, cut-stem, frill, girdle, and tree injection.
  • Grazing-friendly - no grazing restrictions after application; wait 7 days before cutting forage grass for hay.

  • Re-Entry Interval (REI): 48 hours (WPS uses)

Use Sites & Target Vegetation

For use on: aquatic sites (standing and flowing water, estuarine and marine, wetland, riparian), forestry sites, grass pasture and rangeland, non-agricultural lands (rights-of-way, wildlife openings, industrial sites, natural areas), unimproved bermudagrass and bahiagrass, bareground, and under certain paved industrial surfaces. Not for residential driveways, parking lots, bike or jogging paths, golf cart paths, or tennis courts.

Controls: annual and perennial grasses, broadleaf weeds, vines, brush, and trees as listed on the label, including aquatic species such as water hyacinth, water lettuce, alligatorweed, cattail, phragmites, parrot feather, torpedograss, Brazilian pepper, and Chinese tallow. Some listed species are not permitted in California without supplemental labeling.

Application Rates & Timing

  • Terrestrial broadcast (foliar): 2 to 6 pt/A by species and density (grasses and broadleaves 2-6 pt/A, vines 1-6 pt/A, brush 2-6 pt/A); use the higher rate on heavy, well-established stands. Add a nonionic surfactant at 0.25% v/v or higher, or methylated seed oil at 1.5-2 pt/A.
  • Low-volume foliar: 0.5 to 5% Arsenal in water plus surfactant at 5-20 gal/A. Mixed hardwood brush: 1.0-1.5% v/v.
  • Aquatic: 1 to 3 qt/A depending on species and density (for example, water hyacinth 1-2 pt/A, cattail 2-4 pt/A) on emerged foliage; helicopter or surface equipment, aquatic-approved adjuvants only.
  • Forestry site preparation: 48-80 fl oz/A for loblolly, longleaf, shortleaf, and Virginia pine; 40-64 fl oz/A slash pine; 24-48 fl oz/A for Douglas fir, redwood, and western hemlock; 24-32 fl oz/A for other listed conifers.
  • Conifer release & herbaceous weed control: hardwood release 12-40 fl oz/A by species (mid-rotation loblolly 32-64 fl oz/A); herbaceous weed control in loblolly 12-20 fl oz/A and slash pine 8-12 fl oz/A.
  • Cut stump, cut stem & frill: dilute 8-12 fl oz per gallon of water, or concentrate 2 qt with no more than 1 qt water; injection 1 mL per site, one cut for every 3 inches of trunk diameter.
  • Bareground: 1.5 to 6 pt/A alone or tank-mixed, or 0.5-5% spot mix. Paved surfaces: 3 qt/A in at least 100 gal/A.
  • Unimproved bermudagrass & bahiagrass: bermudagrass 6-12 fl oz/A dormant or 6-8 fl oz/A after full greenup; bahiagrass 4-8 fl oz/A.
  • Pasture & rangeland spot treatment: 2 to 48 fl oz per treated acre.

Maximum rates: 96 fl oz/A (3 qt, 1.5 lb ae) per year on non-agricultural lands, forestry, and aquatic sites; 48 fl oz/A (0.75 lb ae) per year on pasture and rangeland. Aerial application: helicopter only on aquatic sites; helicopter or fixed-wing on terrestrial sites, at 2-30 gal/A with coarse or coarser droplets; do not spray in winds below 3 mph or above 10 mph or during inversions. Glyphosate, Accord, Krenite, and Escort are label-listed partners; mixing with 2,4-D can reduce Arsenal performance.

Important restrictions: imazapyr moves through soil and is taken up by the roots of desirable trees and shrubs - do not apply where roots of desirable plants extend, and do not drain or flush equipment near them. Aquatic uses on public waters are limited to federal or state agencies and licensed or certified aquatic applicators; do not treat within 1/2 mile of an active potable water intake without shutting it off for 48 hours, treat no more than half the water surface per operation (10-14 days between treatments), and do not use treated water for irrigation for 120 days if residues exceed 1.0 ppb. No restrictions on swimming, fishing, or livestock drinking water. Wait 12 months and complete a field bioassay before planting rotational crops on treated rangeland. Mix and store only in stainless steel, fiberglass, plastic, or plastic-lined steel; do not store below 10°F.

ALWAYS READ AND FOLLOW LABEL DIRECTIONS BEFORE USE.
