Tivado Insecticide - Spirotetramat 22.4% Two-Way Systemic for Sucking Pest & Scale Control in Tree, Vine & Vegetable Crops
Tivado Insecticide from Atticus LLC is a suspension concentrate insecticide formulated with spirotetramat at 22.4% - containing 2.00 lb spirotetramat per gallon (240 g ai/liter) - and contains the same active ingredient used in Movento. Spirotetramat is a tetramic acid-derived lipid biosynthesis inhibitor (IRAC Group 23) with a genuinely unique mode of action among commercially available insecticides: it inhibits the production of lipids essential to insect development, disrupting the molting cycle and reproduction of immature pest life stages and reducing the fertility of adult female pests, including aphids and whiteflies. Critically, Tivado moves both upward through xylem and downward through phloem - making it the rare insecticide that protects not only the foliage where it is applied, but also new growth, root tissues, and shoot tips that develop after application. This bidirectional systemicity makes Tivado particularly effective against cryptic pests in dense canopies and below-ground pests like root-feeding aphids, phylloxera, and nematodes that foliar-only insecticides cannot reach. Tivado is labeled for use on citrus, grapes, pome fruits, stone fruits, tree nuts, potatoes, and a wide range of vegetable crops, and may be applied by ground, aerial, or sprinkler chemigation.
Key Benefits
- True two-way systemic movement - spirotetramat moves through both xylem (upward to new growth) and phloem (downward to roots and shoot tips), protecting the entire plant, including tissues that emerge after application - a capability very few insecticides share.
- Targets immature pest life stages - highly active against nymphs, larvae, and crawlers; disrupts the molt cycle so immature pests cannot develop to adulthood; also reduces adult female fertility in aphids and whiteflies, cutting off the next generation.
- Unique Group 23 mode of action - lipid biosynthesis inhibition has no cross-resistance with any other insecticide class; Tivado is a high-value rotation partner for managing resistance to neonicotinoids, pyrethroids, and organophosphates in specialty crops.
- Controls above- and below-ground pests - phloem mobility allows Tivado to reach root-feeding pests, including root aphids, grape phylloxera, citrus root weevil larvae, and listed nematode species that are inaccessible to foliar-only insecticides.
- Broad pest spectrum - controls aphids, whiteflies, mealybugs, scales (soft and armored), psyllids, phylloxera, spider mites, leafhoppers, thrips, and nematodes (suppression) across the full crop list.
- Long residual activity - systemic redistribution into new plant growth extends protection beyond the initial application, reducing the number of applications needed per season.
- Flexible application platform - labeled for ground boom, airblast, aerial, and sprinkler chemigation (potato and vegetable crops); compatible with a wide range of tank-mix partners.
- IPM-compatible chemistry - minimal impact on beneficial insects and natural enemies when used as directed; active primarily through ingestion rather than contact, preserving beneficials in the canopy.

Crops & Target Pests
Tivado is registered for use on the following crop groups. Key target pests per crop are listed below - refer to the crop-specific use directions on the label for full pest lists, application rates, PHIs, and seasonal maximums:
- Citrus (oranges, lemons, grapefruit, tangerines, and others): Aphids, Asian citrus psyllid, citrus leafminer, mealybugs, scales (armored and soft), spider mites, whiteflies, and listed nematode species
- Grapes: Grape phylloxera (aerial and root forms), grape mealybug, vine mealybug, leafhoppers, spider mites, whiteflies, and listed nematode species
- Pome Fruits (apples, pears, quinces): Aphids, mealybugs, scales (armored and soft), woolly apple aphid, spider mites, pear psylla, whiteflies; do not apply before petal fall
- Stone Fruits (peaches, nectarines, cherries, plums, apricots): Aphids, mealybugs, scales, spider mites, whiteflies; do not apply before petal fall
- Tree Nuts (almonds, walnuts, pistachios, pecans, hazelnuts): Aphids, mealybugs, scales, spider mites, whiteflies; do not apply before petal fall
- Potatoes: Aphids (including potato aphid, green peach aphid), whiteflies, leafhoppers; chemigation permitted on potatoes
- Vegetables (fruiting, leafy, brassica, bulb, legume, and others): Aphids, mealybugs, spider mites, thrips, whiteflies, and others as listed on the label; chemigation permitted on vegetable crops
- Hops, banana, plantain, coffee, globe artichoke, and additional crops: See crop-specific use directions on the label
Application Rates & Timing
Time applications preventively or at early pest threshold to maximize systemicity and residual effect. Sufficient leaf tissue must be present for uptake and translocation - do not apply before petal fall on pome fruits, stone fruits, or tree nut crops. Efficacy may be reduced when plants are not actively growing, under drought stress, or during periods of cold temperatures:
- Typical foliar use rate range: 4–16 fl oz per acre, depending on crop and target pest; refer to the crop-specific rate table on the label
- Seasonal maximum: 1.25 lb spirotetramat ai per acre per crop season from all spirotetramat-containing products combined; for annual crops, do not exceed 30 fl oz (0.47 lb ai) per acre per calendar year unless specified otherwise in the crop section
- Adjuvant requirement: Tivado must be tank-mixed with a spreading/penetrating adjuvant to maximize leaf uptake and systemicity
- Ground application: Minimum 50 gallons of water per acre on tree and vine crops; minimum 15 gallons per acre on potato and vegetable crops; use sufficient volume for good coverage of both young and old foliage without runoff
- Aerial application: Minimum 10 gallons per acre on tree and vine crops; minimum 5 gallons per acre on vegetable and potato crops; use the higher labeled rate for aerial applications
- Chemigation (vegetable and potato crops only): Sprinkler-type irrigation systems only (center pivot, lateral move, side roll, overhead solid set); follow all chemigation system requirements on the label; do not apply through drip or furrow irrigation
- For airblast applications on tree crops and vineyards: Both sides of the plant must be treated within a 72-hour period when using alternate row middles or tops/bottoms approach
Do not apply when winds exceed 15 mph; avoid gusty and windless conditions. Do not apply in enclosed structures such as greenhouses or plant houses. Do not apply in tank mix with captan or sulfur following or preceding horticultural spray oil, as this combination may cause adverse plant compatibility in tree and vine crops.
Induce adjuvant restriction: The use of Induce adjuvant in combination with Tivado on grape, pome fruits, and stone fruits is prohibited when fruit is present due to adverse plant compatibility on harvested commodities.
ALWAYS READ AND FOLLOW LABEL DIRECTIONS BEFORE USE.

Why Professionals Choose Tivado
Spirotetramat's two-way systemic action and Group 23 mode of action fill a role in specialty crop IPM programs that no other commercially available insecticide covers quite as well, reaching root-feeding pests, protecting new growth, and delivering residual activity against immature pest life stages in a chemistry class with no cross-resistance to neonicotinoids, pyrethroids, or organophosphates. Tivado brings all of that proven spirotetramat performance in a direct generic equivalent to Movento at a price that reflects the economics of a generic product rather than a branded one. For orchardists, vineyard operators, and vegetable growers who already run Movento in their programs, Tivado is a cost-competitive option that delivers the same active ingredient, same concentration, and same application parameters under a new label.
