Meso 4 SC Select Herbicide - Mesotrione 40% Selective Pre- & Post-Emergent Weed Control for Turfgrass

Meso 4 SC Select from Prime Source (a division of Albaugh LLC) is a suspension concentrate formulated with mesotrione at 40% (4 lb ai/gallon) — a Group 27 HPPD inhibitor that provides selective, contact and residual control of a wide range of turfgrass weeds through both pre- and post-emergence application. Weeds turn white as chlorophyll production is disrupted, then die within about three weeks — making Meso 4 SC Select an effective, selective option for controlling stubborn turf weeds including crabgrass, nutsedge, and marestail, along with dozens of other broadleaf and grassy species. It's labeled for a broad range of commercial and residential turfgrass sites — golf courses, sod farms, athletic fields, parks, cemeteries, airports, and lawns — and can also be used to control weeds prior to and during turf renovation/reseeding.

Key Benefits

  • Effective on crabgrass, nutsedge, and marestail — along with a wide range of other pre- and post-emergent broadleaf and grassy turf weeds.
  • Pre- and post-emergence activity — absorbed through emerging shoots for pre-emergent control, or through foliage and soil contact post-emergence.
  • Visible progress, not guesswork — treated weeds whiten within 5–7 days and die within about three weeks, so you can see the herbicide working.
  • Usable during turf renovation — labeled for weed control prior to and during seeding of tolerant turfgrass species.
  • No known resistance — mesotrione (Group 27) has no known cross-resistance with other herbicide classes, making it a valuable rotation partner.

Use Sites & Application Rates

Approved for commercial and residential turfgrass, including golf courses, sod farms, athletic fields, parks, residential and commercial properties, cemeteries, airports, and lawns. Rate varies by turfgrass species — use the lower rate on sensitive species listed below:

  • Pre-emergence: 4–8 fl oz/acre in at least 30 gal water/acre, applied as close to weed germination as possible; pairs well with a soil-active pre-emergent for extended, broader-spectrum control
  • Post-emergence: 4–8 fl oz/acre in at least 30 gal water/acre with a non-ionic surfactant, applied to young, actively growing weeds; repeat 2–3 weeks later for best results
  • Perennial ryegrass, fine fescue, or mixed stands >50% of either: do not exceed 5 fl oz/acre per application
  • St. Augustinegrass (sod only): do not exceed 4 fl oz/acre
  • Bentgrass/nimblewill control: 5 fl oz/acre with NIS, repeated at 2–3 week intervals, up to 3 applications
  • Dormant bermudagrass (winter weeds): 5 fl oz/acre, repeat 2–3 weeks later
  • Spot treatment: 1 tsp product + 3 tsp NIS per 1,000 sq ft (2 gal spray mix)
  • Annual maximum: Do not exceed 16 fl oz (0.50 lb mesotrione) per acre per year

Labeled turfgrass species: Kentucky bluegrass, centipedegrass, buffalograss, tall fescue (5–8 fl oz), perennial ryegrass and fine fescue (5 fl oz), and St. Augustinegrass sod (4 fl oz).

Do not apply to bentgrass, Poa annua, kikuyugrass, zoysiagrass, seashore paspalum, or bermudagrass (except dormant use as noted) — unacceptable injury will result. Maintain a 5-foot buffer from bentgrass/Poa annua greens and putting greens. Do not broadcast on residential lawns except during reseeding/renovation. Do not overspray or allow drift onto ornamentals, flower beds, or gardens — roses and daylilies are especially sensitive. Do not apply through irrigation, make aerial applications, or use treated clippings as mulch around trees, vegetables, or flower gardens. Do not apply organophosphate or carbamate insecticides within 7 days of application. Do not plant any crop other than turfgrass for 18 months following application.

ALWAYS READ AND FOLLOW LABEL DIRECTIONS BEFORE USE.
