Casoron 4G Herbicide - Dichlobenil 4% Granular Pre-Emergent for Ornamentals, Orchards, Berries & Non-Crop Areas

Casoron 4G Herbicide from UPL is a granular herbicide containing dichlobenil at 4% - a Group 20 herbicide that forms a herbicidal vapor barrier in the upper soil layer once activated by rainfall or irrigation, preventing weed seeds and roots from establishing before they emerge. A single fall or early-spring application typically provides season-long control of a broad range of annual and perennial grasses and broadleaf weeds, making Casoron 4G a dependable, low-maintenance choice for established woody ornamentals, nurseries, fruit and nut orchards, berries, cranberry bogs, rhubarb, hybrid cottonwood/poplar plantations, and non-crop areas. Because Casoron 4G is a pre-emergent, it will not control existing weed growth - apply before germination or after old growth has been removed for best results.

Key Benefits

  • Season-long control from one application - the vapor-barrier mode of action provides extended residual weed prevention once activated by moisture.
  • Broad labeled use sites - established woody ornamentals and nursery stock, fruit and nut orchards, bushberries, caneberries, rhubarb, cranberries, hybrid cottonwood/poplar plantations, and general non-crop areas.
  • Wide weed spectrum - controls key perennials (Canada thistle, quackgrass, leafy spurge, Russian knapweed, and more) and annual grasses and broadleaves (crabgrass, foxtail, lambsquarter, ragweed, purslane, and more); also labeled for nutsedge control in non-crop areas.
  • Simple, granular application - apply with standard granular spreader equipment; incorporate through watering-in per label directions for the specific use site.
  • Trusted, long-standing chemistry - dichlobenil has been used in professional ornamental and orchard weed management for decades, and its Group 20 mode of action offers a valuable resistance-rotation option outside more commonly used herbicide groups.

Use Sites & Application Rates

Casoron 4G is a pre-emergent - apply before weed seed germination (early spring) or after old growth has been removed, and always incorporate through watering-in unless the label specifies a soil-surface (non-incorporated) treatment:

  • Fruit & nut orchards (apple, cherry, grape, pear, filbert): 100–150 lbs/A (annual weeds) or 150 lbs/A (perennial weeds); do not exceed 150 lbs/A (6.0 lbs ai) per season; do not apply until 4 weeks after transplanting; do not graze
  • Bushberries (blueberry, currant, elderberry, gooseberry, and others): 100–150 lbs/A; max 150 lbs/A per season
  • Caneberries (blackberry, raspberry, and others, established plantings only): max 100 lbs/A (4.0 lbs ai) for annual weeds; do not apply during new shoot emergence; max 150 lbs/A per season
  • Rhubarb (dormant only): 50 lbs/A broadcast; max 50 lbs/A (2.0 lbs ai) per season
  • Cranberries: 100 lbs/A; apply pre-budbreak or post-harvest while dormant; max 100 lbs/A (4.0 lbs ai) per 12-month period; do not apply after bloom begins
  • Woody ornamentals & shelterbelts (established, in nurseries): 100–150 lbs/A (annual weeds) or 150–200 lbs/A (perennial weeds); max 150 lbs/A on Azalea, Boxwood, Euonymus, Forsythia, Heather, Holly, Ivy, Lilac, Leucothoe, and on plantings less than 1 year old; do not apply until 4 weeks after transplanting; pine species sensitive within 2 years of transplanting - do not use on pines in California
  • Hybrid cottonwood & poplar plantations/stoolbeds (limited to defined desert areas of OR/WA near the Columbia River - Walla Walla, Franklin, Benton counties in WA and Umatilla, Morrow counties in OR): 50–100 lbs/A
  • Non-crop areas (around buildings, fences, industrial and recreational areas, under containerized nursery stock): 100–150 lbs/A (annual weeds), 150–200 lbs/A (perennial weeds), 250 lbs/A (nutsedge)

Key restrictions: Do not apply by air except in cranberry bogs. Do not apply when windy. Do not graze livestock in treated areas for 12 months. Do not use in enclosed structures, seed beds, transplant/cutting beds, or greenhouses. Do not plant rotational crops on which dichlobenil is not registered within one year of application. Avoid granules lodging in foliage (especially conifers) or accumulating at the trunk/soil line. Not for use on "St. Lucie fine sand," "Arzell fine sand," or other light, sandy soils.

ALWAYS READ AND FOLLOW LABEL DIRECTIONS BEFORE USE.
