Method 240SL Herbicide - Aminocyclopyrachlor Broadleaf & Brush Control for Non-Crop & Vegetation Management Sites

Method 240SL is a professional-grade, soluble liquid herbicide formulated with aminocyclopyrachlor potassium salt at 25%, equivalent to 2 lb acid equivalent per gallon. Aminocyclopyrachlor is a synthetic auxin (Group 4) active ingredient that provides both preemergence and postemergence control of a wide spectrum of broadleaf weeds, vines, and woody brush species. Method 240SL is a foundational, non-crop vegetation management herbicide designed for use across industrial, rights-of-way, natural area, and restoration sites, offering residual soil activity, rapid plant uptake, and flexible application methods that make it a versatile cornerstone of any vegetation management program.

Key Benefits

  • Unique mode of action - aminocyclopyrachlor is a pyrimidine carboxylic acid auxin mimic (Group 4) that provides a differentiated mode of action compared to other commonly used vegetation management herbicides, supporting resistance management programs.
  • Pre- and postemergence activity - controls target species both before emergence from the soil and after they are actively growing, providing extended protection in treated areas.
  • Residual soil activity - offers lasting residual control that helps prevent re-establishment of treated broadleaf and brush species after initial application.
  • Rapid uptake - quickly absorbed through leaves, stems, and roots; visible effects typically appear within a few hours to a few days of application, and is rainfast within 1 hour.
  • Multiple application methods - labeled for broadcast spray, selective weeding, bareground programs, cut stump, basal bark, and individual plant treatment (IPT) methods across a wide range of non-crop sites.
  • Flexible tank-mix partner - can be combined with Esplanade for a dynamic bareground solution, with Escort XP for expanded brush spectrum, or with other registered vegetation management herbicides.
  • Foundational program herbicide - simplifies inventory by covering bareground, selective weeding, invasive species, foliar brush, cut stump, basal bark, and hack-and-squirt applications with a single product.

Technical Information

Use Sites & Target Vegetation

For use on: Non-crop private, public, and military lands, including airports; highways and roadsides; railroad, pipeline, and utility rights-of-way; sewage disposal areas; industrial areas (electrical substations, rail yards, industrial rock areas, lumberyards, pumping stations, tank farms, fuel storage areas); farmyards and fence rows; non-irrigation ditch banks and barrier strips; restoration areas; natural areas; wildlife management areas, wildlife openings, and wildlife habitats. Also labeled for the release or restoration of native perennial grasses and established industrial turfgrasses. May be applied to terrestrial non-crop sites with temporary surface water, intermittently flooded low-lying sites, transitional areas, and to the edges of marshes, swamps, and bogs after water has receded.

Controls/Suppresses: Up to 56 broadleaf weeds, vines, and brush species as listed on the label, including bindweed, knapweed, leafy spurge, horseweed/marestail, kochia, poison hemlock, prickly lettuce, Russian thistle, Canada thistle, autumn olive, Eastern baccharis, box elder, Brazilian pepper, buckthorn, callery pear, hackberry, huisache, loblolly pine, mesquite, and many others. See label for the complete Weeds Controlled table.

Application Rates & Timing

Apply when target weeds and brush are actively growing; weeds hardened off by cold weather or drought stress may not be controlled. For best postemergence performance, include a methylated seed oil (MSO) adjuvant in the spray solution. Good spray coverage of target plants is necessary for best results:

  • Selective weeding (broadleaf/invasive weed control): Typically 4–8 fl oz/acre
  • Foliar brush control: Typically 10–18 fl oz/acre depending on species size and density
  • Bareground programs: Up to 18 fl oz/acre
  • Annual maximum: Do not apply more than 18 fl oz (0.28 lb ae) per acre per year, whether applied alone or in combination with other aminocyclopyrachlor-containing products.
  • Aerial application: May be applied by fixed-wing aircraft or helicopter; follow aerial application requirements on the label.
  • Individual plant treatments (IPT): Cut stump, basal bark, hack-and-squirt, and spot foliar applications are available; see the label for method-specific rates and mixing instructions.
  • Adjuvants: For postemergence applications, include methylated seed oil (MSO) or vegetable oil at 1% v/v (1 gallon per 100 gallons of spray solution), or a non-ionic surfactant (NIS) at a minimum of 0.25% v/v (1 quart per 100 gallons). Method 240SL may also be applied as an invert emulsion to minimize spray drift.

Do not apply directly to water. Do not apply through any type of irrigation system. Do not apply to areas within the root zones of desirable trees or shrubs unless injury or loss can be tolerated. Do not graze or feed forage, hay, or straw from broadcast-treated areas to livestock. Do not use plant material treated with this product for mulch or compost. Do not plant treated non-crop sites with food, feed, or fiber crops for at least one year following application without first completing a field bioassay. Observe all state-specific use restrictions and supplemental label requirements.

ALWAYS READ AND FOLLOW LABEL DIRECTIONS BEFORE USE.

Why Professionals Choose Method 240SL

Method 240SL gives vegetation managers a foundational, residual herbicide built around a genuinely differentiated mode of action, one that controls the full spectrum of broadleaf weeds, invasive species, vines, and woody brush that other commonly used products may leave behind. Its flexibility across application methods, from broadcast spray programs to individual plant treatments, means a single product can cover multiple operational needs across rights-of-way, natural areas, and industrial sites. Combine it with Esplanade for bare-ground programs or Escort XP for expanded brush spectrum to build a complete, targeted vegetation management program.
