Imox Herbicide - Imazamox 12.1% for Aquatic, Non-Cropland & Industrial Vegetation Management (Same AI as Raptor, Beyond, and Octivio)

Imox Herbicide from Alligare is a water-miscible liquid herbicide formulated with ammonium salt of imazamox at 12.1% - equivalent to 1 pound of imazamox acid equivalent (ae) per gallon - the same active ingredient found in Raptor, Beyond Extra, and our own Octivio Herbicide. Imazamox is an imidazolinone-class ALS inhibitor (HRAC Group 2) that provides selective, postemergence control of a broad range of annual and perennial grasses, broadleaf weeds, and sedges through rapid foliar and root absorption, translocation, and inhibition of plant cell growth. Imox is labeled for selective vegetation management in and around aquatic sites, terrestrial non-cropland areas, industrial sites, and rights-of-way, and with Alligare's FIFRA Section 2(ee) food plot bulletin, it may also be used in wildlife food plot species, including alfalfa, clover, chicory, beans, and peas in all registered states except Texas and Oregon. If you are specifically looking for an imazamox product with a full terrestrial agricultural label covering clover and alfalfa food plots, see our listing for Octivio Herbicide, which carries the crop-registered ag label required for those uses.

Using Imox in Clover & Food Plots - Important Label Notes

Imox is one of the most popular imazamox products for food plot managers because of its competitive price and its 1 lb ae/gallon concentration, which goes a long way at typical food plot rates. Many customers use Imox based on the same underlying imazamox chemistry as Raptor and Beyond Extra - and Alligare has formally extended its food plot use through a FIFRA Section 2(ee) recommendation bulletin (valid through December 31, 2028) covering wildlife food plot use in wildlife openings for alfalfa, clover (grown for nonfood/nonfeed and for seed), chicory, beans, peas, edamame, and soybeans.

However, Imox's core Section 3 label covers aquatic and terrestrial non-cropland sites. It does not carry a direct terrestrial agricultural crop label for clover, alfalfa, or other food plot species. If your intended use is strictly in a food plot or agricultural setting and you want the most straightforward, fully crop-registered label for that purpose, Octivio Herbicide - which we also carry - holds the full agricultural label with explicit directions for use in clover, alfalfa, and related species, along with complete weed control tables and rotational crop restrictions for those uses.

Both products contain the same active ingredient at the same concentration. The difference is the label - and in pesticide law, the label is the law.

Key Benefits

  • Same active ingredient as Raptor, Beyond Extra, and Octivio - imazamox at 1 lb ae/gal; same mode of action, same spectrum of weed control, at a competitive price point.
  • Broad-spectrum selective weed control - controls annual and perennial grasses, broadleaf weeds, and sedges across a wide species list; highly effective on many problematic invasives, aquatic weeds, and non-cropland weed species.
  • ALS inhibitor with systemic activity - imazamox is rapidly absorbed through foliage and roots, translocated throughout the plant, and inhibits the ALS enzyme system responsible for branched-chain amino acid synthesis, causing growth cessation and plant death.
  • Aquatic and terrestrial label - registered for use in and around aquatic sites (lakes, ponds, rivers, streams, marshes, ditches, and more) and for terrestrial non-cropland vegetation management (industrial sites, utility corridors, railroad and highway rights-of-way, fence rows, ditch banks, and wildlife openings).
  • FIFRA 2(ee) food plot bulletin included - the Alligare-issued Section 2(ee) bulletin extends legal use of Imox to wildlife food plot applications in wildlife openings for alfalfa, clover, chicory, beans, peas, and soybeans in all registered states except Texas and Oregon (valid through December 31, 2028).
  • Grazed and hayed sites permitted - treated aquatic and terrestrial non-crop sites may be grazed or cut for hay at the maximum use rate of 1 gallon per acre; no grazing or haying restrictions apply.
  • Multiple application methods - foliar broadcast spray, foliar spot spray, injection (hack and squirt), frill and girdle, cut stump, basal application, and aquatic water application methods are all labeled.
  • Highly economical concentration - at 1 lb ae/gallon, Imox goes a long way at typical food plot and vegetation management use rates; typical food plot applications use 4–8 fl oz per acre.

Technical Information

  • Active Ingredient: Ammonium salt of imazamox - 12.1% (equivalent to 11.4% imazamox acid; 1 lb ae/gallon)
  • Formulation: Water-Miscible Liquid Concentrate (dilute in water)
  • Herbicide Group: 2 (ALS inhibitor/imidazolinone)
  • EPA Reg. No.: 81927-66
  • Re-Entry Interval (REI): 12 hours

Use Sites & Target Vegetation

Aquatic sites: Arroyos, bayous, canals and irrigation canals, creeks, ditches, estuarine sites, lakes, marshes, ponds, reservoirs, rivers, streams, swamps, wetlands, and other slow-moving or quiescent bodies of water. May also be applied during drawdown conditions.

Terrestrial non-cropland and industrial sites: Industrial non-cropland sites (utility plant sites, tank farms, pumping installations, storage areas), fence rows, ditch banks, railroad rights-of-way, utility rights-of-way, highway rights-of-way, and wildlife openings. Sites may be grazed or cut for hay following treatment.

Wildlife food plots (via 2(ee) bulletin, all states except TX and OR): Alfalfa, beans (dry), chicory, clover (grown for nonfood/nonfeed and for seed), edamame, lima bean (succulent), peas (dry), English pea, snap bean, and soybean - when planted solely for wildlife food plot use in wildlife openings.

Key vegetation controlled (terrestrial foliar): Annual ryegrass, bedstraw, buckwheat (wild), buttercup, canola (volunteer non-Clearfield), cattail, chickweed, cocklebur, filaree, flixweed, giant ragweed, henbit, Japanese stiltgrass, jimsonweed, johnsongrass, kochia, lambsquarters, mallows, mustard species, nightshade species, pennycress, phragmites, pigweed species, purple loosestrife, purslane, radish (wild), ragweed, sedges (yellow and purple nutsedge), shepherd's purse, smartweeds, spurge, sunflower (common), thistle (Russian), velvetleaf, whitetop/hoary cress, and many others. See the complete weed control table on the label for the full species list and rate-specific notes.

Note on clover and grass safety: Imazamox is selective in legumes (clover, alfalfa, soybeans) and will not injure these species at labeled rates. It is not safe on grasses - do not apply to grass-based food plots, pasture grasses, or hay grasses.

Application Rates & Timing

Apply to actively growing weeds for best results. Applications made to young, actively growing weeds at early growth stages will optimize performance. Include an appropriate adjuvant as directed for the application method and site:

  • Terrestrial foliar broadcast spray: 16–128 fl oz per acre depending on target species (see weed control table on label); maximum 1 gallon (128 fl oz) per acre per year; do not exceed 2 applications per year; minimum retreatment interval 14 days
  • Wildlife food plots (via 2(ee) bulletin): Refer to the weed control tables for the applicable crop on the Imox Section 3 label for rate guidance; maximum 1 gallon per acre per year; do not exceed 2 applications per year; minimum retreatment interval 14 days; typical food plot clover rates follow the clover/alfalfa weed control table - typically 4–8 fl oz/acre for most annual grass and broadleaf weed species
  • Foliar spot treatment: Up to 5% v/v Imox in water; add MSO at 1% v/v
  • Injection / hack-and-squirt / cut stump: Up to 100% v/v undiluted Imox
  • Basal application: Up to 25% v/v Imox; requires an emulsion system with a penetrating agent
  • Adjuvants: Use a nonionic surfactant at 0.25% v/v or higher, OR methylated seed oil (MSO) or vegetable oil concentrate at 1.5–2 pt/acre (or 1% v/v when spray volume exceeds 30 gal/acre). MSO is particularly recommended for stressed plants. Use only aquatic-approved adjuvants for aquatic applications.
  • pH note: Imazamox is stable across a wide pH range in water, but highly alkaline spray water may reduce activity; buffer the spray solution if necessary.

Annual maximum: Do not apply more than 1 pound of imazamox ae (1 gallon of Imox) per acre per year from all imazamox-containing products combined.

Important restrictions: Do not apply to food crops except as specified in the 2(ee) food plot bulletin. Do not harvest any plant species in wildlife food plots for seed, bedding, or human or livestock consumption. Do not apply in a way that adversely affects federally listed endangered or threatened plant species. Do not apply to water except as specified on the label. Do not contaminate water when disposing of equipment wash water or rinsate. Not for sale or use in Texas or Oregon under the 2(ee) food plot bulletin.

ALWAYS READ AND FOLLOW LABEL DIRECTIONS BEFORE USE.
