PRODUCT SUGGESTION for clover/alfalfa food plots: We now carry Octivio (same AI as Raptor) in quarts and gallons. Octivio is a grass and broadleaf herbicide with superior broadleaf control and has some residual effect as well. Cost is less per acre than Clethodim and Butyrac 200 due to the low use rate, and can be applied in one application instead of applying Clethodim and Butyrac separately. Overall, Octivio is the best choice for grass and broadleaf control in clover, alfalfa, and chickory.

Clethodim 2E Herbicide - Selective Grass Control for Food Plots & Broadleaf Forages

Clethodim 2E is a go-to, selective grass herbicide that controls emerged annual and many perennial grasses while preserving most broadleaf forages and food-plot species like clover, alfalfa, chicory, brassicas, peas, and soybeans. With proven systemic activity and an oil-adjuvant requirement, Clethodim 2E delivers dependable knockdown and residual suppression of regrowth when used as directed.

Key Benefits

  • Grass-only selectivity - removes grassy competition without injuring labeled broadleaf food-plot crops.
  • Broad spectrum on grasses - controls foxtails, crabgrass, barnyardgrass, brome, panicum, volunteer cereals, and corn; suppresses quackgrass and bermudagrass.
  • Excellent fit for food plots - cleans up cereal volunteers in clover/alfalfa/chicory/brassica mixes.
  • Systemic performance - moves to growing points for thorough control of actively growing grasses.
  • Program flexibility - tank-mix compatible; avoid antagonistic mixes with phenoxy/dicamba (see guidance below).

Technical Information

  • Active Ingredient: Clethodim - 26.4% (2.0 lb a.i./gal)
  • Formulation: Emulsifiable Concentrate (EC) / 2E
  • Herbicide Group: 1 (ACCase inhibitor)
  • Adjuvant Requirement: Use a crop oil concentrate (COC) or methylated seed oil (MSO) at 1% v/v; AMS may be added per label.
  • EPA Reg. No.: 84229-33

Use Sites & Target Weeds

For use in: Food plots and broadleaf forages (e.g., clover, alfalfa, chicory, brassicas), soybeans, peas, and other labeled broadleaf crops and non-crop sites as specified on the product label.

Controls/Suppresses: Foxtails, crabgrass, barnyardgrass, volunteer wheat/oats/rye, volunteer corn, fall panicum, johnsongrass (seedling and rhizome), brome; suppression of quackgrass and bermudagrass with higher rates and/or follow-up.

Application Rates & Timing

Apply to small, actively growing grasses and ensure thorough coverage.

  • Annual grasses (2-6 in.): 6-12 fl oz/A + 1% v/v COC/MSO; use 12-16 fl oz/A for heavier infestations or larger grasses within label limits.
  • Perennial/sod-forming grasses (e.g., johnsongrass, quackgrass, bermudagrass suppression): ~16 fl oz/A + 1% v/v COC/MSO; a follow-up application may be required.
  • Carrier volume: Typically 10-20 GPA by ground for best canopy coverage.
  • Adjuvants: Use COC or MSO at 1% v/v; AMS may improve performance in hard water or on stressed weeds (follow label).

Antagonism: Avoid mixing with phenoxy and other broadleaf herbicides (e.g., 2,4-D, dicamba); apply Clethodim 2E 2-3 days before or 5-7 days after such products to maintain grass control. Observe crop-specific grazing/haying intervals and seasonal maximum use per the label.

ALWAYS READ AND FOLLOW LABEL DIRECTIONS BEFORE USE.

Why Food-Plot Managers Choose Clethodim 2E

Clethodim 2E reliably cleans up grassy competition in broadleaf food-plot mixes, protecting establishment and forage quality with a simple, oil-adjuvanted program growers trust season after season.

For broadleaf control, use Butyrac 200 sprayed separately! See Butyrac 200 listing.
